TRANSCENDENCE | Milan Design Week 2023

For the occasion of Milan Design Week 2023, Ross Gardam studio presents TRANSCENDENCE, a unique curation of luminaire designs.  The show is an exploration into the innate allure of illuminated glass and its far-reaching effect beyond the physical. Referencing the moon, the ocean, geometric motifs and the illusion of motion.

With TRANSCENDENCE, Australian designer Ross Gardam invites you on a journey of discovery beyond the limits of the ordinary. To experience a variety of intriguing designs, all based on experimentation with different glass techniques. Each piece is a sculpture in its own right, revealing different personalities when light is added, reduced or removed.

The exhibition is a mix of new collections and limited editioned pieces. Volant is a static lamp with an uncanny ability to appear in motion. A modern chandelier that’s almost akin to a kinetic sculpture. Méne celebrates the universal infatuation with the celestial, resembling a lunar apparition delicately floating in mid-air. Ceto Circlet captures the rippling surface of the ocean in a pattern that emits a delicate luminosity, evocative of the sea.

Also unveiled at the exhibition are two limited edition pieces, to be released as a part of Objects & Editions.

Vestige is conceived as an optical device to create a sense of wonderment. While summoning the presence of the otherworldly, drawn from the deep, Noctiluca’s ethereal form transcends the conventional.

TRANSCENDENCE reflects Gardam’s extensive work with lighting design and fascination with glass, in addition to his impressive portfolio of furniture. The pieces are a result of the studio’s innovative engineering and ongoing experimentation with traditional glass techniques, providing a creative platform for Gardam’s irrefutably refined geometric sensitivity.
