The design vision was to create a number of elegant and comfortable spaces for the next phase of the client’s lives. Spaces that would work well for two, yet also be flexible enough to accommodate visiting family and friends.
Inspiration from the beautiful views of the Sydney Harbour and leafy surrounds influenced the colour and material palette. Layers of blues in varying shades from light to deep navy, contrast with warm, earthy tones of bronze, salmon and blush through to soft neutrals encapsulate the palette. In the dining area, a bespoke banquette overlooks the sunny garden where the clients can sit happily reading the Sunday paper while having breakfast or with 8-10 guests for dinner. The comfortable seating was designed around the client’s existing timber dining table which had witnessed many family gatherings and was of huge sentimental value. The living space design capitalises on the abundance of natural light from the windows overlooking the garden, and blue, bronze and blush tones continue across the space with the plush navy sofa and arm chairs in palest pink.
Upstairs the brief for the guest bedrooms was to create welcoming spaces for the client’s adult children and visiting friends or relatives. Once again using beautifully crafted, Australian made pieces, paired with layers of linen and velvet, the rooms exude warmth and elegance. The blue glass Silhouette Wall Lights by Ross Gardam complements the colour scheme in that space as well as the whole home, with its navy bedside tables and bedlinen. The blue glass is so elegant and embellishes the room like a jewel.
The overall design of the home is threaded together with a considered selection of colours and materials that reflect the surrounding waterfront location and the client’s lifestyle, resulting in welcoming spaces designed to be enjoyed.
Avoiding the unnecessary, Bayside House by Adam Kane Architects is an exercise in refined restraint, purposefully designed for its custodians to grow with, and into.
